To preserve the archaeological, cultural,historic, natural and scenic qualities along the route taken by Hernando DeSoto where he first came in contact with the native people.

The rich Southeastern Indian history of the land features village sites where Chickasaw people lived, hunted, and raised families. Spanish explorer Hernando DeSoto encountered the Chickasaws and other Native American tribes on his explorative journey towards the Mississippi River.

Take a drive along the trail and cross the gently rolling farmlands of the eastern portion straight into the Mississippi Delta, concluding with the bluffs and hills overlooking the great Mississippi River.
